Is everything okay? Big Brother’s Skye Wheatley has a bizarre meltdown after euthanising wild RATS in her home

Skye Wheatley suffered a worrying meltdown on Monday after learning she had no choice but to euthanise several wild rats that were living in her home.

The former Big Brother star, 27, broke down in tears in a video shared to Instagram as she revealed the rodents couldn’t be rehomed.

‘I’m just going to be honest with you guys. They will most likely euthanise them if they are not native,’ an emotional Skye said.

‘I couldn’t find anyone who wanted to take them and I can’t look after them because I can barely look after my own animals. It would be cruel of me to take them.’

‘One had a missing leg and half tail. I wish I’d never found them but they would have been killed anyway when we ripped out the whole kitchen,’ she added, referencing the ongoing renovations to her Gold Coast home.

Skye said she was ‘hopeful’ euthanising the rats was the ‘best thing to do’ given the circumstances, but admitted she was grieving nonetheless.

She told her followers she felt an ‘overwhelming attachment to these rats’ because she used to have a pet rat herself – presumably when she was a child.

In order to alleviate her guilt over having the rats killed, she has ‘donated money’ to a wildlife hospital ‘to make myself feel better’.

Skye and her boyfriend, tradie Lachlan Waugh, are finishing renovations on their Gold Coast mansion.

The couple bought the Spanish colonial-style property in 2019 for $975,000.

She told the Gold Coast Bulletin last year they ‘fell in love’ with the home when they bought it, even though it was so run-down it looked ‘haunted’.

Skye said she thought it was ‘fate’ they were able to get the home for such a good price after it was initially bought by a Chinese buyer who left it deserted for six years.

‘The owner was a Chinese man, and him and his wife wanted to send their children to a nearby school, and they were going to live there but… it never ended up happening,’ she said.

Lachlan and Skye began renovating the property, known as La Casa Grande, in 2019, transforming the bedrooms, living areas, kitchen, swimming pool and backyard.

There are four bedrooms, four bathrooms and parking spots for four cars.

Skye rose to fame on Big Brother Australia in 2014 and began dating Lachlan in 2017. They share two sons, Forest and Bear.
