Durham Regional Police say officers responded to the intersection of Kingston Rd. and Harwood Ave. for a report of a serious motor-vehicle collision involving a blue Honda Accord and a black Chevrolet pickup truck around 3:15 a.m.

“The 73-year-old female passenger of the Honda was pronounced deceased at the scene,” Det.-Const. Jeff Kollaard said in a statement released Saturday. “The 40-year-old female driver of the Honda was transported to a Toronto trauma center with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.”

He said the driver of the allegedly stolen pickup fled the scene.

However, a suspect was located and arrested soon after.

Jason Selig, of Pickering, is charged with offences that include impaired driving causing death, impaired driving causing bodily harm, leaving the scene of an accident, theft of a motor vehicle and driving without a licence.

The accused was held in custody for a bail hearing.
