NOT ALL COVID
World Juniors cancelled. NHL games postponed. Remember the good old days when a player would be a game-day decision based on his common flu status? Now everything is COVID related, no matter what. The annual tolerable flu no longer exists ! As long as there are Napoleon politicians and doctors positioning themselves for job security and making money, nothing is going to change. Keep everyone quarantined and huddled together. That reminds me of past winters when everyone would stay in the cozy indoors and sneeze on each other for four months. Imagine that

JOURNALISTIC CONFUSION
It’s becoming increasingly difficult to digest the arguments of journalists who seem confused about vaccine protests. Anti-mandate protesters are not anti-vax protesters. While some “anti-vaxxers” may join vaccine mandate protesters, they are not the same. Many fully vaccinated people participate in these protests against government overreach. It’s about people other than your doctor demanding you put something in your body without your consent. This is a human rights issue, not a vaccination criticism. It’s too bad otherwise intelligent columnists cannot grasp this clear distinction.

(That is true, they do all too often get lumped in together. Part of the issue is the anti-vaxxers are far more vocal)

DOCTOR, HEAL THYSELF
It’s been reported from other countries where Omicron first appeared for at least a month that this form of the virus is much milder than previous variants. The same evidence has also been reported here in Canada as well. I personally know more than several people contracting this COVID variant, telling me their symptoms were nothing more than the common cold. Why in the world are we listening again to so-called experts who are advocating more shutdowns similar to the early days of COVID when hospitalizations definitely dictated the need to shutdown initially! The death rates are exponentially smaller now compared to the early days of dealing with this. Stop restricting our lives and even if need be, let natural anti-bodies build up to help stop the spread. Things have gotten ridiculous. Doctors, just stop!

OUTRAGE ON ORDER
I just read Steve Simmons weekly wrap up of sporting events (Jan. 2). My jaw was actually agape when he informed us of Donovan Bailey’s exclusion from the Order of Canada. How is this even possible considering the inclusion of Bruny Surin? I have nothing but respect for both these teammates of the gold-medal winning 4×100m relay team. Their victory was a stunning upset over the U.S.A. and Great Britain. This victory plus Donovan capturing the gold in the marquee event of fastest man in the world — how is it remotely possible for Bruny to attain this honour before Donovan? The politics of this decision need to be put aside as Simmons has so eloquently expressed. This needs to be addressed and corrected. Might I add my two cents and inquire why another absolutely Canadian personality has been omitted as well: A Don Cherry on top would also be nice.
