Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has slammed the decision to not send off Sadio Mane in the opening minute of Chelsea’s thrilling draw against Liverpool.

With just six seconds on the clock at Stamford Bridge, Mane floored Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta with an elbow just in front of the touchline.

Referee Anthony Taylor opted against showing the red card, however, booking the Liverpool forward for the challenge.

Nine minutes later, the Senegal international scored the game’s opening goal, capitalising on an error from Trevoh Chalobah to slot home.

After a breathless first-half that saw the game tied at 2-2, former Chelsea striker Hasselbaink criticised Mane for what he felt was an intentional elbow, and the referee for not sending him off.

‘I think its reckless, I think it is a red card for me,’ Hasselbaink told Sky Sports.

‘He knows exactly what he is doing. It is an elbow, I think if you give the yellow then you had to give the red.’

Azpilicueta was also critical of the decision, insisting Mane’s elbow was a ‘clear red’ while speaking in his post-match interview.

Following Mane’s opener, Mohamed Salah doubled Liverpool’s lead inside the opening 30 minutes.

Mateo Kovacic scored a stunning volley with Christian Pulisic levelling the contest before the half-time whistle.
