Britney Spears says faith helped her push past difficult issues with her family in recent years

Britney Spears on Monday took to Instagram with a detailed message in which she opened up on how her faith and self-confidence helped her amid difficult times with her family.

The musical artist, 40, said that ‘prayer is a constant in [her] life’ and that she ‘had an experience three years ago where [she] stopped believing in God’ during her well-publicized issues with her family, swirling over her since-ended conservatorship her father Jamie Spears formerly headed.

‘From every angle I was being hurt for no reason and my family was hurting me,’ the …Baby One More Time singer said. ‘I went into a state of shock and the way I coped was being [in] fake denial. It was too much to really face.’

She said that in looking to avoid conflict, she took a ‘fake denial “everything’s totally fine”‘ approach, all the while she was ‘absolutely screaming inside.’

Spears went into detail about some of the professional conflicts she faced with her family, specifically with remixes of her material.

‘I asked for 13 years to perform new songs and remixes of my old songs … I had two months off in between each show setting for four years in Vegas … and every time I asked I was told, “No…”!!!!’

The Grammy-winning artist said she felt like she was set up to fail despite accurately knowing what her fans hoped to see.

Spears, snapped in LA in 2019, said her faith has been rattled at times, but she remains hopeful

‘It didn’t make sense how network television shows are showcasing my music with remixes of all of my music … yet the person who owns the music is told no!!!!’ she said. ‘They even gave remixes to my sister but I was always told no?’ (She was referring to Jamie Lynn Spears taking to the stage at the 2017 Radio Disney Music Awards doing a remix of Britney’s song Till the World Ends.)

The Oops!… I Did It Again vocalist said that time was wasted to ’embarrass and humiliate’ her, and led her to cease making new music. (Her most recent studio album was 2016’s Glory; a deluxe version was released last year.)

‘People have no idea the awful things that have been done to me personally,’ she said. ‘Not doing music anymore is my way of saying “F*** You” in a sense when it only actually benefits my family by ignoring my real work … it’s like I’ve subconsciously let them win.’

She delved into her faith as she recalled meeting a terminally ill woman and said she felt ‘shallow’ telling the woman, ‘God is with you.’

Spears continued: ‘The reason I bring this up is because I know the pain of not believing anymore and feeling so alone and even the arrogance of the world can test your faith. Trust me, I know and it’s not fun … Last year was growth for me… I still have a ways to go!!!’

She said that her goal for the coming year was ‘to push [herself] a bit more and do things that scare’ her.

‘We are just people and I’m not superwoman but I do know what makes me happy and brings me joy and I try to meditate on those places and thoughts that enable me to experience it,’ she said.

Spears said she has ‘serious insecurities’ and referenced a previous post in which she listed her ‘accomplishments’ as stemming from her issues with her family.

‘Honestly my family embarrassed me and hurt me deeply … so tooting my own horn and seeing my past accomplishments reflecting back at me actually helped,’ she said.

Spears said that while it must seem like she’s ‘extremely insecure,’ people would ‘COMPLETELY understand’ if they knew what she had went through.

‘It’s a shame that people don’t like the truth!!!!’ she said. ‘I’d get more respect for doing a spread for Playboy than I would writing a book!!!!’

She said such sentiments tied into her initial message to fans to pray, adding, ‘I’m extremely insecure and I probably care too much so that’s all I got … PRAYER!’
